For OEMS in Tight Spots
- 29 January 2002
Weighing in at less than 15kg (33lb), are two new members of Rietschle's Shark family of rotary lobe blowers, the WPB/WVB 15 and 25. Christened the Mini Shark, the model 15 has a 'footprint' of only 403mm (L) by 177mm (W) and 175mm (D), including the drive motor. Its compact design should appeal to OEMs and design engineers requiring an oil-free vacuum or air supply in tight spots on stand-alone machinery or small-scale water treatment plants. Triple lobe rotor design makes for low noise and pulsation levels, and these dry-running, contact-free vacuum pumps and compressors have capacities of 15m3/h or 25m3/h. They are suitable for pressure duties up to 0.560bar or vacuum down to 0.350mbar (abs). Dynamically balanced prior to assembly, the contra-rotating rotors are driven by helical toothed drive gears for silent running and high load-carrying capacity. Gear teeth are hardened, ground and polished to maintain fine operating tolerances between the lobes, and the rotor housing is free of any sealing or lubricating materials. This robust gearbox construction affords continuous, maintenance-free operation of up to 60,000 hours. Servicing is minimal, and frequency control is available as an optional extra, both of which make for economies in operation: a relevant factor given the longevity of these Mini Shark units.
